oscar nominations

This is just a simple list of a few categories and who i want to win those categories.

Enjoy my wise and insightful choices.

Best Picture

Atonement
Juno
Michael Clayton
No Country For Old Men
There Will Be Blood

I want Juno to win this. I love Juno. The movie rocks. I’m totally crushing on Ellen Page (sorry Keryn). Despite this heaping of affection i’m not expecting Juno to win.

Best Actor

George Clooney (Michael Clayton)
Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd)
Daniel Day Lewis (There Will Be Blood)
Tommy Lee Jones (In The Valley Of Ellah)
Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises)

Acting maestro (and my own personal hero) Johnny Depp is the guy i want to win this. He probably won’t though. I don’t know if people remember but he got nomiated for his role as Captain Jack in the first Pirates of the Carribean movie.

Best Actress

Ellen Page (Juno)
Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth: The Golden Age)
Julie Christie (Away From Her)
Laura Linney (The Savages)
Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose)

See above reference to my infatuation with Miss Page.

Best Supporting Actor

Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men)
Casey Affleck (The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford)
Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton)
Philip Seymour Hoffman (Charlie Wilson’s War)
Hal Holbrook (Into The Wild)

Javier Bardem in pretty much a shoe-in here. Hands down.

Best Supporting Actress

Cate Blanchett (I’m Not There)
Ruby Dee (American Gangster)
Saoirse Ronan (Atonement)
Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone)
Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton)

Smart money is on Cate to pick up this one. I’m ok with that.

Best Screenplay (Original)

Diablo Cody (Juno)
Nancy Oliver (Lars and The Real Girl)
Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton)
Brad Bird (Ratatouille)
Tamara Jenkins (The Savages)

This is probably the only category where the one i want to win will win. Diablo Cody all the way for Juno. Brad Bird might be a dark horse though.

Best Screenplay (Adapted)

Christopher Hampton (Atonement)
Sarah Polley (Away From Her)
Ronald Harwood (The Diving Bell and The Butterfly)
Ethan Coen and Joel Coen (No Country For Old Men)
Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood)

This’ll probably be a toss up between No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood. Atonement may nab this one from under their feet though.

Best Director

Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and The Butterfly)
Ethan Coen and Joel Coen (No Country For Old Men)
Jason Reitman (Juno)
Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton)
Thomas Paul Anderon (There Will Be Blood)

Jason Reitman really did an outstanding job with this film. He desevres every award that can possibly be given. The front runners are probably the Coens and Mr Anderson though.

Well that’s it. I haven’t posted other categories because frankly it would take too long. Feel free to argue with me over my choices (even though you’ll be totally wrong).

You can find a full list of nominations here.

Happy Oscars eveyone.
