A friend of mine posted something interesting on his blog recently. For those too lazy to click the link the basic idea is that for 7 times less than the war in Iraq is costing, we could send people to Mars.
I’ve posted my comments on his site but i just wanted to get this out there a bit more. Spread the word people. Link this story up.
We can go to Mars.

I’m blushing… but one quick point of clarification.
The 7 times to mars is based of one year of budgetary expenditure for Iraq. Using a straight extrapolation, after 5 years of war, we could have funded 35 mars missions.
Even if you account for NASA projects historical tendency to blow out, I am sure we could have managed 20 or so missions. Heck, thats enough for a permanent colony.

More than enough.
Although i’d like to see a moon base before i we have a Mars one.
