adrian zaslona and the assassin’s creed

This post has been a long time coming. I’m really not sure why this has taken so long because honestly i won’t it isn’t really going to take long.

I’d been looking forward to Assassin’s Creed for months. Many many months. I championed this game and its revolutionary game mechanics go anyone who would listen (and after a little while even to people who couldn’t care less).

Finally the big day came. Assassin’s Creed was in my hand. Joyful gaming would surely soon be mine.

Any minute now.

Joyful gaming here i come.

Hmmm. Taking a while here. Maybe i’ll just play a bit more. It has to get better soon. At least i’m getting some hefty achievement points out of this.

===Some time later===

Bored now.

I really could not figure out what went wrong. Everything seemed pretty good technically. I had some trouble mastering a couple of the movies but that’s no reason to chuck a whole game. Even after giving it a few more days it just wasn’t happening. So i finally did what i honestly never expected i would do. I returned Assassin’s Creed and picked up Mass Effect.

And the solution presented itself.

Yes, Assassin’s Creed had all of the elements that i had championed. Revolutionary interaction with the world and a very effective movement system. Truly a next gen game.

But i didn’t have any fun playing it. It was like watching Citizen Kane. Groundbreaking but sterile. I really didn’t enjoy it at all.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Assassin’s Creed 2 though. Perhaps i’ll get into that one some more.
