x-men: messiah complex
So for those of you in the know the X-Men: Messiah CompleX one-shot came out last week.
I’ve been hanging out for this series for months. It’s the reason i started picking up comics weekly as opposed to just collecting them in trade paperback (although i will be getting the trade paperback when it comes out). However, having high expectations has been a bad thing for me recently, especially where X-Men media is concerned (thank you very much Brett Ratner you fraking hack). There was always the risk that i was going to overhype Messiah CompleX in my head and be totally gutted by how it eventually would turn out.
I am pleased to announce that opening shot of Messiah CompleX has exceeded even my lofty expectations.
I won’t give too much away just in case there are those out there who haven’t read it yet (if that is you then what the hell are you waiting for dumb ass) but the general story is that the first mutant has been born into the post House of M world. This marks a major shift in the X world as prior to this the mutant race seemed headed for a speedy extinction.
Pretty big news. Now there are a few groups who knew that this was coming. Sadly for the child, none of these groups were the X-Men. As we enter Messiah CompleX both the Marauders (led as always by the mysterious Mister Sinister) and the Purifiers (an extreme anti-mutant religious group) are after this child. So keen are they for the child that they tore apart an Alaskan town just to get at it (no word whether it’s a he or a she just yet).
That’s as far into the plot as i will get but let me say that this story started fantastically and it just kept getting better. All of the characters involved were written brilliantly and you can really feel the tension rising as the story progresses.
And the art is awesome! I cannot put enough emphasis on how good this looked. Everything was just so vivid.
If i had a rating system (and one day i might) i’d give this full marks. Bring on chapter 2!

Whoo. Messiah CompleX kicked ass. I loved how Emma provocatively pointed her ass at Scott and asked, “No orders for me, Scott?”
Oh, Emma.

She is a little bit ‘cheeky’.
Ok, that was lame and i apologise.
All jokes aside though it really was phenomenally good.

Emma needs to stop hinting to the readers that she’s the submissive in bed. Because we all think she’s the dominator. But I’m pretty sure Scott loves being the dominator. We all know Jean never allowed that. Hehehe.

And that is exactly what the problem is with Scott and Jean’s relationship! Scott wanted to be the man in bed, yet Jean wouldn’t let him because of expectations and self-doubt she unconsciously put into him.
I know it wasn’t really Jean…but remember the issue when Scott & Jean apparently first copulated? Dark Phoenix Saga? Ring a bell? Anyways…Jean was practically forcing sex on him!
Jean: Scott! Open your eyes! Let’s have visorless sex!
Scott: No! I’m uncomfortable with it!
Jean: I’m PHOENIX BITCH. I can do anything!
Scott: Fine!

Correction.
Scott: No! I’m uncomfortable with you holding in my optic blasts while you orgasm. You could lose control, and I could kill you!

You’ve thought about this too much.
